This is a frame off, 100% from the ground up complete restoration of a highly original 1952 MGTD. This car needs nothing.
Don't even think of comparing this car to any MGTD you've read about, seen or considered for acquisition. This car is far more "perfect" than anything delivered from the factory.
The "Back Story"
In late 2019 my paint and body guy called and asked if I might be interested in a project MG. I said, "Maybe, what's the story?" He said, there was a guy here in Houston, doing a restoration on this MG. Apparently he spent $50K on shipping the frame and running gear to England for a refurb and another $50k on parts from Moss motors and other suppliers to totally rebuild the car. He got Covid and died, a week later, his wife died with Covid. Family inherited the rebuilt running gear (all assembled) and the parts. They just want to cash out. Asked if I knew someone stupid enough to take on an English restoration in mid-project. Imediately, your name came to mind." "Not sure how much of a compliment that is," I said, "but I'll look at the car.
It's two years later, more or less and the car is finished. When I say this is better than new, you have to see the car to fully understand what I mean. For example:
New
wood throughout
refurbished and painted frame
all new paint throughout
gauges
carpet
leather
starter
carb
exhaust
wiring
weatherstrip
100% of original chrome replated or replaced
dash wood
brakes
headlights
turn signal lights
cover
radiator
fully bebuilt engine
fully rebuilt transmisson
clutch
fully rebuilt and sealed rear end
brake linings
master cylinder
tires (Fireston from Cooper Tire)
Literally everything on this car with the exception of its shadow has been rebuilt, replaced or repainted. It has no parallel at in price in the US that I have laid eyes on and I've seen a few MG's in my day. Come take a look. If you are after the finest available, you will take this one home.
